This Privacy & Cookie Policy explains how Clip-Short.com ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and safeguards your personal data when you use our video processing platform. It also describes the storage technologies we rely on and the controls you have over them.

Data we collect and process

• Authentication data: Email address, name, and session tokens managed by Clerk for secure sign-in.
• Project content: Video files, transcriptions, and metadata you upload to create clips or reframed videos.
• Usage data: When you opt in, we collect anonymized analytics through PostHog to understand feature usage and improve the platform.
• Payment information: Billing details processed securely through Stripe (we do not store credit card numbers).
• Support correspondence: Messages and feedback you send to our support team.

How we use your data

• To provide and maintain the video processing service.
• To process your videos, generate transcriptions, and create short-form content.
• To manage your account, subscription, and billing.
• To improve our platform and develop new features (analytics, as described under "Analytics cookies" below).
• To provide customer support and respond to your inquiries.
• To comply with legal obligations and protect our legitimate interests.

Essential cookies & local storage

We store essential information in your browser to operate the service securely and preserve your work. This includes: authentication cookies from Clerk for secure login, UI preferences (theme, project layout, sidebar state), unsaved draft edits in the video editor saved to IndexedDB, and your consent decision. These are strictly necessary for the platform to function and do not require separate analytics consent.

Analytics cookies (optional)

We use PostHog to understand which features are used and monitor platform performance. If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, it runs only after you allow it in the cookie banner. Elsewhere it is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time under "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. PostHog collects pseudonymous event data (page views, feature clicks, session duration) and assigns a random identifier stored in cookies and localStorage. We use this data solely to improve the product—never to build marketing profiles or sell to third parties. If you decline or turn off analytics, these scripts will not load.

Advertising measurement (optional)

We advertise on Google. The Google tag loads on our pages in Google's Consent Mode: until analytics is on (see above: after you allow it in the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland, by default elsewhere) it stores nothing in your browser and sends Google only cookieless signals. Once it is on, it sets Google Ads cookies so Google can tell us whether an ad led to a sign-up, a video made or a purchase. We do not use it to build profiles of you or to show you personalised ads elsewhere. Declining, or turning analytics off later, turns this off too.

• Google Cloud Storage: Secure storage for your video projects.
• PostHog: Privacy-focused product analytics (opt-in in the EU/EEA, UK and Switzerland; can be turned off anywhere, https://posthog.com/privacy).
• Google Ads: Measuring whether our ads work (cookies only while analytics is on, https://policies.google.com/privacy).

Managing your preferences

• Use the cookie banner, "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page, or "Privacy preferences" in the navigation menu to change your analytics choice at any time. A choice you make is kept wherever you are.
• Resetting your decision removes your saved choice: in the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland the banner asks again; elsewhere analytics goes back to on.
• You can clear browser storage or block cookies through your browser settings; note that essential features require certain storage to function properly.

Data security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication through Clerk, access controls and monitoring, and regular security updates. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data retention

We retain project data and account information for the duration of your active subscription unless you delete it or request erasure. Deleted projects are permanently removed within 30 days. Analytics data is retained for 12 months before automatic aggregation and anonymization.

Your rights

Depending on your location (including GDPR for EU users and CCPA for California residents), you may have rights to: access your personal data, correct inaccurate information, delete your data ("right to be forgotten"), export your data in a portable format, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Contact us to exercise these rights or raise questions about our practices.

International data transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place through our third-party service providers' compliance with applicable data protection frameworks.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy & Cookie Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
